A Heartfelt Thank You from Coastal Edge: Celebrating the Heroes Among Us

This past Saturday at Coastal Edge Pembroke, we had the incredible honor of hosting our 5th Annual Local Heroes Day—a celebration that reminded us just how lucky we are to call Virginia Beach home. From the moment the first fire truck rolled into the parking lot to the final handshakes and hugs, the day was filled with joy, connection, and deep appreciation for the people who serve our city every single day.

Our parking lot at Pembroke Square came alive with energy as families gathered to meet the real heroes of our community—first responders from the Virginia Beach Fire Department, Police Department, Sheriff’s Office, 911 Dispatch, K9 and Bomb Units, SWAT, Beach Rescue, and more. Their presence wasn’t just impressive—it was humbling. These are the people who rush toward danger when others step back. They work tirelessly behind the scenes and on the front lines to keep our neighborhoods safe, and Saturday gave us a chance to say a small but heartfelt “thank you.”

We were proud to treat our guests to an afternoon of free food, fun, and celebration. Mission BBQ brought their signature comfort food, Kona Ice kept everyone cool with sweet treats, and our first 100 visitors walked away with free Coastal Edge Local Heroes Day t-shirts. Children lit up with excitement as they explored emergency vehicles, watched K9 demos, played in bounce houses, and met some truly incredible officers and volunteers. The Sheriff’s Office was even on hand offering free child ID kits, making safety a priority while connecting with families in a meaningful way.

At the heart of it all was community. We saw kids asking officers about their gear, parents thanking paramedics for their service, and neighbors sharing stories of courage and kindness. Events like this are about more than just fun—they’re about building bridges between the people who serve and the people they protect. And if the smiles, handshakes, and heartfelt conversations were any indication, we did just that.

To every first responder who took time out of their day to be with us: thank you. Thank you for your sacrifice, your strength, and your unshakable commitment to Virginia Beach. To our community: thank you for showing up, for supporting our heroes, and for making Coastal Edge more than just a store—we’re a part of something much bigger, and that’s because of you.

We’re already looking forward to next year’s celebration, but for now, we’re still smiling from this past weekend. From all of us at Coastal Edge, thank you for making Local Heroes Day at Pembroke so special. We’re proud to stand beside you, to serve this city, and to honor the people who make it great.

      With gratitude,
      The Coastal Edge Team

Cheers to 35 Years of Coastal Edge

Today, we’re beyond stoked to celebrate a major milestone — 35 incredible years of Coastal Edge. What started as a simple love for surf, skate, and street culture has grown into something so much bigger than we ever imagined. And we couldn’t let this moment pass without taking a moment to say thank you.

To our family, friends, team members, and most importantly, our amazing community — your support, encouragement, and belief in us have been everything. From the early days to now, through the highs, the challenges, and every wave in between, you’ve been the heartbeat of this journey.

We’ve always stood for more than just retail. Coastal Edge has been — and will always be — about passion, purpose, and people. It’s about bringing together those who love to ride, create, express, and connect. And it’s been our absolute honor to grow alongside all of you.

So here’s to 35 years of memories, milestones, and movement — and to many more ahead. We can’t wait to see what the future holds, and we’re grateful to have you along for the ride.

Surf, Skate, & Create: The Coastal Edge Steel Pier Classic Student Art Pavillion

Where It All Comes Together: Fashion, Art & Music, Action Sports, and Sustainability

Every Memorial Day weekend, the Coastal Edge Steel Pier Classic Presented by Katin brings our community together in the most beautiful way. Now entering its 22nd year, this event is more than a surf contest—it’s a celebration of creativity, talent, and the passions that make Coastal Edge who we are.

One of the most meaningful parts of the weekend is the Coastal Edge Student Art Pavilion, a space where young artists from local high schools and middle schools get to shine. For many of them, this is their first time showcasing their work publicly—first time selling their art, and we’re honored to help create that moment.

Through the Student Art Pavilion, we give students the chance to display and sell their artwork free of charge. They are not only sharing their creativity—they’re stepping into the world of art with confidence, learning how to present their work, connect with an audience, and believe in their own voice.

The Vans Custom Culture Student Art Expo:

Thanks to our amazing partners at Vans, students can take part in the Vans Custom Culture Student Art Expo, where blank Vans shoes become one-of-a-kind masterpieces. Whether it’s paint, Sharpie, fabric, or even papier maché, students bring wild ideas to life—and the results are nothing short of magical. These shoes are part of a juried contest, with winning entries becoming part of a traveling art exhibit that’s displayed in Coastal Edge stores, at the Coastal Edge East Coast Surfing Championships, and more throughout the year.

We’re incredibly grateful to Vans for continuing to support young artists and providing such a creative and powerful platform for self-expression.

The Eastern Skate Supply Skate Deck Contest:

The creativity doesn’t stop there. Students can also design their own skateboards in the Eastern Skate Supply Skate Deck Contest, transforming skate decks into bold, personal statements. Like the Vans shoes, these pieces are judged, awarded, and showcased in the traveling art exhibit—giving students a moment of real recognition and inspiration.

A huge thank you to our friends at Eastern Skate Supply for their unwavering support and for giving these young artists a unique, exciting canvas to work on. Their continued partnership helps elevate this experience into something unforgettable for every student who participates.

Perhaps the most powerful part of the Student Art Pavilion is the way it helps these young artists take their very first steps as professionals. They get to sell their work to the public and experience the joy (and courage) of putting themselves out there. We’re right there to guide them, support them, and celebrate them every step of the way.

It’s moments like these—where students light up with pride, where families gather around a tent of handmade art, where a simple shoe or skateboard becomes a voice—that remind us why we do what we do. This event brings all our pillars—fashion, art & music, action sports, and sustainability—into one vibrant, meaningful experience.

We are so excited for the 22nd Annual Coastal Edge Steel Pier Classic presented by Katin, happening May 24th to May 26th, 2025. We cannot wait to see what this year’s talented group of students has in store. It’s going to be something truly special.

And to the incredible teachers who guide, inspire, and support these young artists every day—thank you. This event wouldn’t be possible without your passion and dedication.

And finally, a heartfelt thank you to Katin for helping make this incredible event possible year after year.
